Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach (CSC-RB) will team up with the City of Redondo Beach, Redondo Beach Pier Association and Spectrum Athletic Clubs to present Yoga on the Pier every Thursday beginning today, September 4 and running through September 25. These free classes are an hour long and begin at 6 p.m. In lieu of a class fee, donations will be accepted to benefit free cancer support programs offered by CSC-RB. Peninsula Committee Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is proud to present the 57 Annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show. The three day event takes place Friday, September 5 through Sunday, September 7 at Ernie Howlett Park. General admission is free on Friday and $5 per person on Saturday and Sunday. Children under 12 get in for free. Reserved seating is available at ringside tables (table of 10 for all three days is $450 or one day for $200) Individual seats at tables are $25 each. Join the El Segundo Police Department for Neighborhood Watch in the Park on Saturday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. in Library Park. Representatives from Traffic, Patrol, K9, Investigative and SWAT divisions will discuss their duties, current crime trends in the city and prevention methods. Learn what the ESPD is doing to combat crime and how you can help. Be sure to bring your questions and concerns. In addition, they’ll be offering free bicycle registration – bring your bike or the serial number, make and model. Attendees will enjoy refreshments and a few lucky people will win raffle prizes. Head to Dockweiler State Beach for the Jet to Jetty 5K Run/Walk & Kid’s Fun Run on Saturday, eptember 6. The fun gets underway at 8 a.m. with the 5K followed at 8:30 with the 10K. The Kids Fun Run begins at 9:30. Registration prior to September 4 is $35 for adults and $15 for kids. All participants will receive a race t-shirt, drinks and snacks. Food trucks will be on site offering food for purchase. Enjoy an expo featuring an array of items and random prizes just for registering. Enter the team or individual costume contest to win a dream trip to Maui. Tickets are $5 each or 12 for $50. The Redondo Beach Pier Association presents the annual Chalk Art Festival on Saturday, September 6 from noon to 4 p.m. Aspiring and experienced artists are invited to participate in this colorful event intended to transform the Pier into a canvas over the water. All ages are welcome, there is no fee to register and free chalk will be given away to the first 150 registrants. Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories. Street Food Cinema and the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce present Manhattan Movie Nights on Saturday, September 6 at the Marriott Golf Course. The event features live music, food from local restaurants and a screening of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Doors open at 5:30, the music begins at 6:30 and the movie starts at 8:30. Attendees will enjoy tasty bites from Adam Gertler & Dog Haus, Cake MB, Coni Seafood, Grow – The Produce Shop, Manhattan Beach Creamery, Marriott and The Ripe Choice Catering. The Redondo Beach Art Group presents Shopping without Guilt: A Parking Lot Fashion Sale of Recycled & Vintage Clothing taking place Sunday, September 7 in the parking lot of Return Engagement. The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce presents the Torrance Rhythm & Brews Festival at Alpine Village on Sunday, September 7 from 1 to 6 p.m. The Torrance Rhythm & Brews Festival is a family-friendly event, featuring live music, local craft brews, food, arts & crafts vendors and kid’s zone. Enjoy live performances by Hollywood Stones, Mojo A Go Go and The Jay Edward Band. The event features beer from Strand Brewing Company, Golden Road Brewing and Stone Brewing Company. All canines and their human companions are invited to attend a monthly Social Canine Group Hike on Sunday, September 7 at 9 a.m. These hikes offer attendees the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while making new friends. This month they’ll be hiking in the area of the Point Vicente Lighthouse. This is a drop-in activity – no registration is required – so just show up and join in. The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce has come up with an appropriately awesome way to celebrate the end the summer – with the Backyard BBQ Opportunity Drawing! In an effort to end the season on the right note, the Chamber will provide the winner, and their guests, with everything they need for the hottest summer BBQ in the South Bay.
