Across America, folks will be celebrating the Fourth of July holiday with family, friends and neighbors - at the beach, in parks, at block parties and in backyards. All over the country, we’ll be licking BBQ sauce from our fingers and oohing and aahing at fireworks.
The South Bay traditionally experiences massive crowds at the beach, on the Strand and around commercial districts such as Pier Avenue, Manhattan Beach Boulevard, Riviera Village and other locations.
Local law enforcement agencies will be out in force again this year to keep the celebration safe and sane. As stated in a Hermosa Beach Police Department press release, “The City will continue to strictly enforce laws banning public intoxication, driving under the influence, underage drinking and drinking on the beach.” With regard to underage drinking, it stated, “Anyone under 21 years of age caught with an open container will have their license revoked, or withheld, if they are not yet licensed.”
In addition, “The Manhattan Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, July 5 from 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. Simply put, if you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested.”
The Fourth of July is all about celebrating our freedoms - and if you don’t play by the rules, some of those freedoms will go right out the window and you’ll end up in the pokey. Let’s celebrate responsibly.
