I’m in denial over the fact summer is coming to a close. In a futile attempt to pretend otherwise, this Weekend Guide is bulging at the seams with all manner of summer-centric events. Let’s get out there and enjoy every minute of it before school starts, the days get shorter and we have to start thinking about Halloween costumes. PS: Costco is already geared up for Halloween. (sigh)

Riviera Village hosts Third Thursdays today, August 21. This all day event debuted earlier this summer and has already become a local favorite! Stroll along the sidewalks of this charming coastal village overflowing with quaint shops, extraordinary restaurants and firms offering every service imaginable. Shops will stay open for business until 8 p.m. A raffle drawing for Village gift bags add to the fun. Spend a total of $50 at participating businesses (restaurants excluded) to be eligible to enter the drawing. At the time of your first purchase, fill out an information card and present it whenever you make a purchase. In addition, the evening features live entertainment scattered throughout the Village from 6 to 8 p.m. After all the shopping is done, enjoy a cocktail, appetizer or meal at one of the many fine dining establishments. The Redondo Beach Pier Association presents the Summer of Music Concert Series every Thursday and Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. until August 30. These concerts are free to the public, so gather your family, friends and neighbors for a casual, relaxing evening of entertainment the South Bay way. The owner of Four Daughters Kitchen in Manhattan Beach, Clint Clausen, passed away suddenly last week. A Paddle Out Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 22 at 9:15 a.m. at 26 Street in Manhattan Beach. There will be a get together at Four Daughter's Kitchen afterward at 1:00. Journey of Faith is proud to present Phil Keaggy in Concert on Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. Phil Keaggy is a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and master guitarist with over 50 solo albums to his credit, including eight albums with his band Glass Harp. Keaggy enjoys performing concerts all over the United States and this year is stopping by the South Bay for a one-night only performance. The City of Redondo Beach hosts Summer Family Films under the Stars throughout the month of August. Enjoy an evening in the park with family, friends and neighbors. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and whatever you do, don’t forget the popcorn! The film being screened this Friday, August 22 is Road to Morocco, starring Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Del Amo Fashion Center presents the ABC’s of Style with Teen Vogue and a special buzzworthy performance and ‘meet and greet’ with Rixton, on Saturday, August 23! Del Amo Fashion Center’s kick-off ABC’s of Style festivities take place from noon to 4 p.m. in the Outdoor Promenade, helping families have fun while shopping for back to school must-haves. Featured activities provide exclusive, in-person experiences, including an Exclusive Style Guide, Fashion Show, Mall-Wide Discount Offers and Samples and a Special Musical Performance by Rixton. The Kiwanis Club of Lomita – Harbor City hosts the fifth annual Lomita Fire & Sheriff’s Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, August 23. The event will feature raffle prizes, entertainment and spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. The kids (and adults!) will enjoy photo ops in and on the fire engines, trucks and sheriff patrol cars. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and may be purchase prior to the event or at the door. In addition, there will be limited edition firefighter’s t-shirts for sale. The El Segundo Police Officers Association is proud to present the 17 annual Main Street Car Show. This popular event is free to the public and will take place on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 100 to 500 blocks of Main Street. The Main Street Car Show is open to all pre-1975 custom classic street rods, antique sports cars, race cars and special interest cars. The event also features live music and a raffle with some great prizes. Proceeds from the show are utilized to support many worthwhile causes throughout the community such as Fueled by the Fallen, the El Segundo Education Foundation and C.A.S.E. I think this event is already sold out….. Trump National Golf Club is proud to present the annual Wine & Beer Festival on Sunday, August 24. Presented by Joe Giacomin’s Martin Chevrolet, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. The event takes place from 12 to 4 p.m. and features live entertainment, gourmet food trucks, raffle prizes and of course, an extensive selection of wine from more than forty different wineries and beer from over twenty different breweries. El Segundo Museum of Art hosts Family Day on Sunday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet up with friends or bring the family for a day of art and fun! Explore Experience 11: SCRATCH, take part in a family-friendly tour with an ESMoA Educator and make artwork inspired by works on view by some of LA’s premiere graffiti and tattoo artists. Art making materials will be available for a range of ages and ability levels, including adults. This month, join legendary LA graffiti writer and Getty Black Book artist PRIME for fun with writing. Saint Rocke and LA Car Guy present the 2014 Hermosa Beach Summer Concert Series! The concerts take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. This Sunday, August 24 is the last concert of the season (oh noooooo!) and features The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones Tribute. These concerts are some of the most popular events in the South Bay and the crowds number well into the thousands. Arrive early to claim a prime viewing spot! The City of Manhattan Beach presents Concerts in the Park this Sunday, August 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. Get out your beach chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and head to Polliwog Park for some summertime fun! The concert this Sunday features Hard Days Night, a Beatles Tribute band. There are no dogs, barbecues or wheeled vehicles allowed at any time in the concert area. Umbrellas and pop-up tents may be set up before and after the concert but once the concert begins, you will be required to take them down. Join the Beach Cities Health District for the final event in the free fitness series, Boot Camp in the Park, this Monday evening, August 25 at Valley Park in Hermosa Beach. Get moving and de-stress with this free, public event that brings together the community, fitness and fun! Everyone is welcome to participate at your own pace. Registration starts at 6 p.m. with the hour long boot camp beginning at 6:30. All participants must sign a waiver. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, athletic clothing and bring a jacket in case of cool weather. If you have a special talent and are ready to take the stage, this is your chance to shine! The Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation presents the inaugural South Bay’s Got Talent. The Foundation is a long-time supporter of local artists and will feature them on one stage for a night of great entertainment. Auditions will be held September 8 and 9 at the Armstrong Theater with the main performance on Saturday, September 27. All genres of talent are accepted: music, dance, acting, variety, etc. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The talent show is open to all residents of the South Bay which includes the Beach Cities (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach), the Palos Verdes Peninsula, neighborhoods of the City of Los Angeles (Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, San Pedro and Wilmington), El Segundo and inland cities of the South Bay (Hawthorne, Inglewood, Gardena, Carson, Lawndale, Torrance and Lomita). The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce has come up with an appropriately awesome way to celebrate the end the summer – with the Backyard BBQ Opportunity Drawing! In an effort to end the season on the right note, the Chamber will provide the winner, and their guests, with everything they need for the hottest summer BBQ in the South Bay.
