Jack White's 'Blunderbuss' ousts The Beatles as 2012's top-selling vinyl record

While digital single sales surge and album sales are on a decline, the vinyl record still enjoyed a good amount of music sales in 2012. Ultimate Classic Rock blog reported on Friday that alternative rocker Jack White's “Blunderbuss” album sold the most vinyl copies last year, besting The Beatles' “Abbey Road.”

White's “Blunderbuss” sold 34,000 vinyl records since its April release last year. The Grammy-nominated album initially debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's all-genre encompassing albums chart upon release. Trailing White by a small margin of 4,000 copies is The Beatles with their 1969 album “Abbey Road.” Though an older release, “Abbey Road” was the biggest selling vinyl of 2010 and 2011, stepping aside to White in 2012.

The rest of 2012's top 10 vinyls are filled with contemporary indie and rock albums like Mumford & Sons' “Babel,” Black Keys' “El Camino,” and Beach House's “Bloom.” Another interesting mainstay from last year is Adele's “21.” Her record comes in at No. 9 with 16,000 in vinyl sales, but is the year's overall top-selling album for a second consecutive time with 5.82 million copies sold.

Music chart Billboard further reports that while overall album sales were down by 4 percent last year, vinyl records continued to increase in sales for a fifth straight year, jumping up 18 percent with 4.55 million LPs sold.
