Headlines reading "Jack Swagger arrested" may have shocked some WWE fans this past week, as the wrestling star has been a part of a major story involving a championship and WrestleMania 29. However, he was arrested over DUI charges and will be appearing in court for them. Additionally, he's been removed from several upcoming live WWE events.
A report from Web Pro News on Feb. 22 notes that TMZ reported the arrest, indicating that Swagger had left a WWE SmackDown taping at Mississippi Coast Coliseum, but was pulled over for speeding. Swagger, real name Jacob Hager, had been traveling 55 in a 45 mph zone, and the officer determined he was impaired. After a search of Hager's car, marijuana was found. Hager was charged with possession, as well as DUI and speeding. The DUI was said to be "not alcohol related."
Hager will apparently have to go to court for the DUI charge, whereas the other charges can be settled by paying fines through the mail. According to a Wrestle Zone report on Thursday, Swagger was pulled from live events for the weekend. He's scheduled for appearances on Monday Night Raw in the next few days, and then for a SmackDown taping next Tuesday, but it's unknown if those will still happen.
Ironically, Swagger has been part of an interesting new storyline in which he and an associate, Zeb Colter, have been talking about taking back America and ridding the country of illegal aliens. The campaign has involved a pro-America angle with Swagger, also called "The Real American," using a slogan he repeats of "We the People." Swagger is set to face Mexican wrestler Alberto Del Rio, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, at WrestleMania 29 in April.
