The success of last year’s Jack Reacher has paved the way for a sequel, according to a Dec. 10 report by MSN Movies. Confirmation on whether or Tom Cruise will reprise his role has not been received but seems likely given the film’s success.

Author Lee Childs has written 16 novels in the best-selling series featuring the Jack Reacher character. The film sequel entitled “Never Go Back” is being adapted from Childs’ most-recent novel.

In the series, Reacher is an investigator who takes on odds jobs as a private investigator after leaving his first career as an investigator for the Military Police. For the sequel, Reacher will be returning to his former military base to meet with a female commanding officer he knew back in the day.

Upon his arrival, he learns she has been arrested and he himself is placed under arrest for crimes he is innocent of. His powers of deductive reasoning and his military combat skills are the only tools at his disposal as he tries to figure who is behind the set up.

Cruise is currently preparing to start filming on “Mission: Impossible 5” which is being filmed by of “Jack Reacher” director Christopher McQuarrie. The studio is reportedly looking to hire McQuarrie to do the Reacher sequel when MI5 wraps.
