Ja Rule prison: Rapper released and taken into federal custody

Ja Rule has been released from prison. The rapper, who served nearly two years behind bars, was released on Thursday, WFTV reported on Feb. 21.

According to the report, Ja Rule served most of his 2 year sentence for illegal gun possession, but went straight to federal custody in a tax evasion case.

U.S. Marshals escorted the 36-year-old out of the Mid-State Correctional Facility. However, it isn’t yet clear of Ja Rule will serve prison time for the tax evasion case.

The rapper’s lawyer says that if Ja Rule is forced to finish out his prison sentence he may have less than six months left, and could be eligible to live in a halfway house for the remainder of the time.

However, Ja Rule is ready to get back to work, especially since he’s been ordered to pay $1.1 million in back taxes.

"I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money — I'm getting a little choked up — I didn't know how to deal with these finances, and I didn't have people to guide me, so I made mistakes,” the rapper told his judge during a court hearing.

What are your thoughts on Ja Rule being released from prison and taken directly into federal custody? Do you think he should serve more time?
