J-Rock's benefit show preview

This Saturday is a benefit for one of the most recognizable figures in the Tampa music scene. Rock Solid Pressure's own J-Rock recently was hospitalized due to the Shingles, or the adult chicken pox. His lovely partner-in-crime, Patty the Radio Girl, e-mailed me when it happened. J-Rock had emergency surgery on his eye and throat. They saved him, but most honest, hard-working Americans, he doesn't have insurance. Thus the Rock Solid Pressure Show is throwing a benefit for him. December 19th at Bourbon Street. Sadly, I won't be attending, else I would. J-Rock has done so much for the local music scene. I have heard different stories from different people, but either way, there is a benefit and let's start with my predictions of how the show might go!

Let's start with the top of the list, and arguably the most popular, is the DOOD. I've had the pleasure of seeing this band live before. However, my one thing about them (and I'm hoping it has been fixed) is that the vocals don't match up with the music. Can't tell on their Myspace tracks, but when they are live, the vocals aren't as fierce as the music, They do a hell of a job though. I'm predicting the house house being rocked by these guys and their dedicated fans.

Are you surprised I'm talking about these guys? Suggestion is on the bill. My most reviewed band for a reason. I know they will be bringing their full stage show antics to the stage, making the fans laugh and then get them geared up for a pit. They manged to get a 6 point pit before. Will they regain it again? Or will the fans see them and just have a good time? Predicting, as always, band of the night or close second.

I have no problems with flying fully. Full Flight is a talented metal band from Pinellas county. They will get a pit going, or make a young child do it. If you haven't heard them before, you won't forget them come the 19th.

Here's something that sounds like an oxymoron, Thrash Jazz. This alternative outfit from New Port Richey doesn't have either jazz or thrash. They are rock, left to right, up and down. I've never seen them live, but I'm hoping they got more presence than sound. Not getting much vibe from Thrash Jazz. There have to be winners and losers, and Thrash Jazz most likely is not going to top Suggestion or The DOOD.

J-Rock is just pulling at all strings. Now taking a turn to hardcore we have Holly Maddux. Sounds like a Molly Hachet tribute band, but that would be way off. Rough, harsh and fast, Holly Maddux comes at you. I'm predicting bodies will be thrown in the Pit of The Night.

Again, taking a rock turn. From This Fire has already been on 98Rock and ReverbNation. At some points they do have a slight metal edge, but are mainly mainstream style music and sound. Not predicting a pit as much as I'm predicting teenage girls and young 20s bouncing up and down yelling they are the best band ever.

You aren't withering away yet, are you? Ovid's Withering will be on the bill. I have heard good things from their live performances, and combined with their amazing talent of metal, Ovid's Withering will put on a clinic. Another close runner for Pit of The Night as well.

I call shotgun! Shotgun Signature... I have no idea what to say about their music. It's discord and not in a good way. The two vocals are going everywhere. Grindcore, hardcore, metalcore, too many cores! They sound like a garage band that J-Rock owes a favor too. Hardcore dancing is what I'm seeing.

A new wave of Florida metal will hit the benefit. Chamber The Cartridge will show up most of the bands. Their mothers will be praying for no pits... Sometimes God deliver unanswered prayers. CTC is another band that whoever is going should look out for.

And we have finally hit the bottom of this crackerjack box. Misunderstood Superheroes is a punk band from New Port Richey who's closest to a good song is a cover of T.I's "Whatever You Like". Is this all J-Rock could find? A punk band who does hip hop covers? I don't even want to go on record what I predict.

Wow. J-Rock's benefit is gonna be quite a tasteful event. Metal, rock, punk, and whatever else there is. It will be a great night of music, without a doubt. Some bands will not be good, some bands will be tremendous. The show begins at 3:00 PM, so get there early. If you do end up going, please leave a comment to tell if my predictions were right or wrong. J-rock hope you get better. Horns high my friend.
