J. Rene Coffee Roasters in West Hartford is serious about coffee. It is an upscale coffee shop located at 320 Post Road, West Hartford. It is open Monday thru Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Sundays the hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
They have entertainment sometimes. On, Feb 22 they had the Mike Casey Jazz Trio perform from 7 to 9 p.m. It featured Mike Casey on the sax, Matt Dwonszyk on bass, and Mike Dick on the drums. Onlookers listened to music while enjoying gourmet coffee and desserts. Many of the desserts served are gluten free.
The interior has tables with chairs and long tables with stools. It is a casual but unique in design. When you order coffee it is prepared using three different methods french press, siphon pot and cremex. The coffee prices range from $3 to $5 per cup. They have expresso, cappuccino, lattes, and gourmet blends. They have cupping sessions on Wednesday and Sunday. This is how they show customers how to taste coffee. It is taking a spoonful of coffee from one cup slurping it and then spitting it out. Usually a container is given to spit the coffee into. This is messy but fun session for serious coffee drinker.
