J'Ouvert parade: Labor Day weekend

The J'Ouvert parade, pronounced (Ju-vey) sets off at the Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn; though it officially starts at 2:00am traditionally crowds gather at 4:30am. The intimate setting lasts until 6:00am celebrating with live steel pan music hours before the West Indian American Labor day parade rises. Attendees are expected to participate and are advised not to wear good clothing; the likelihood of getting splashed with paint, mud, and talcum powder is great.
