J Mendel Fall 2013 : A story of subtle opulence (Photos)

J Mendel Fall 2013 collection is a story of tasteful elegance where everything is lavish without being over the top. Designer Gilles Mendel draws inspiration from artist Gerhard Richter's cohesive, layered style to create a collection that maintains a perfect balance between decadence and discipline.

The luxurious fabrics like silk, jacquard, charmeuse, organza and tulle are used to create sleek dresses, pencil skirts and evening gowns. The colors are sumptuous, the earthy tones of copper, moss and rust are punctuated with bold scarlet, fuchsia and royal blue. Known for their opulent style and red carpet worthy gowns, design house of J. Mendel brings the signature chic to their fall 2013 collection in a modern, more disciplined way. The spirit of the collection is more conservative, hemlines are longer (even overlapping the tall boots), necklines are higher - many dresses had turtlenecks. The leather V-neck dress with cropped biker jacket is more polished and dare we say feminine, than any all-leather ensemble can ever hope to be!

The layered looks of the collection are refined and effortless, the textures are as much the part of the style as the silhouette and the fabric. Gilles Mendel uses furs liberally for creating rich, cozy yet polished looks. No details are left unattended - from side pleating of the pencil skirt to the exquisite embroidery of the gowns, the collection speaks of a brilliant craftsmanship.
