J.K. Rowling, the famous “Harry Potter” author, is suing the Daily Mail regarding a story the web site published about her, according to the Huffington Post on Friday. J.K. Rowling is suing over a piece the Daily Mail published about her challenges as a single mother.

Rowling is suing Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the web site, for publishing the article entitled “How JK Rowling’s sob story about her past as a single mother has left the churchgoers who cared for her upset and bewildered” which first appeared in September of 2013. Rowling claims that some of the information in the article is false.

Rowling argues that the piece in the Daily Mail falsely and inexcusably accused her fellow-churchgoers of behaving in a bigoted, unchristian manner towards her, of stigmatizing her and cruelly taunting her for being a single mother. The famed writer insists that she never complained about her treatment by the members of her church. She asserts that the article is misleading and unfair.

The court documents claim that there was no basis in fact for the central premise of the article, and was contrary to basic standards of fair and responsible journalism.

According to the report, the Daily Mail piece was based on a parenting web site’s article written by Rowing. On the Gingerbread web site she wrote an article, “I am prouder of my years as a single mother than any other part of my life.”

The Daily Mail article has been removed from the web site, but was also published in print.
