Exciting news for Harry Potter fans in Fresno and all over the world today as J.K. Rowling, author of the original series of novels that catapulted the franchise into the eternal annals of popular culture, has signed on to write a sew series of spin off films for the Potter franchise.
As reports by Moviefone, which was in-turn taken from a Warner Bros. pres release posted by Deadline, Rowling will be writing a films series about the magical adventures of Newt Scamander, the author of the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
This project will mark Rowling's screenwriting debut and is intended to kickoff a new film franchise anchored in the non-muggle world.
As Rowling said in an interview, "Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry's gets underway."
No doubt that this news will be a welcome surprise to dedicated Potter fans, and we all look forward to seeing how things will turn out from here.
