J.K. Rowling admits mistake in Hermione and Ron relationship

In a new interview conducted by Emma Watson, who is a guest editor at Wonderland, J.K. Rowling admitted making a mistake with the relationship between Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in “Harry Potter, according to a Feb. 1 report in Hypable. The world famous author stated that she should have made Harry and Hermione the main couple of the fantasy series.

For many years, shippers of Harry/Hermione and Ron/Hermione have fought over who was the superior couple. When Ron and Hermione’s relationship was legitimized in the “Harry Potter” book series, HP/HG fans were despondent. Now, with this shocking news that the lead character and the loveable book worm of the series should have been together all along, fans may take up the old debate.

I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment … That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron,” Rowling said.

J.K. Rowling admits that fans could end up getting cross with her, but for some reason she felt she should explain how she changed her mind about the pairing. She stated that since the last book in the series was released, she has altered her view of the compatibility of Hermione and Ron.

I know, I’m sorry … I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not,” J.K. continued in the interview with Watson.
