The force is strong in J.J. Abrams. He has taken on the task of fighting against the darkside by signing on as the director for the Disney owned “Star Wars” movie.
Denying the project for months, he finally accepted the challenge. Abrams has chosen his light saber and will battle the task put before him, he will.
Previous favorites included Christopher Nolan and Wes Anderson, after Abrams decided against the role. The highly praised director decided as a childhood fan, he would rather sit in the audience and wonder what would come next rather than be behind the scenes.
Abrams is a good trooper. His ability to give franchises the modern flair they need to become blockbusters has been proven in the “Mission Impossible III” film and the reboot of “Star Trek.” Like the rest of us, Abrams has been a huge fan of Darth Vader and the gang. He has definitely shown his creative side in the sci-fi genre with “Lost” and “Super 8.” The collaboration of both elements gives Abrams a thumbs up as choice of director, at least from this fan.
It has been reported that Ben Affleck was in the running as director before Abrams signed on. Affleck has three films behind him as director, however he has no sci-fi accomplishments, which could have been detrimental to the future of the “Star Wars” franchise as we know it. If someone was to take the wookie by the ammo belt, it would be Abrams.
May the force be with him.
