If you’re a fan of the Eagles, you may also be a fan of J.D. Souther without even knowing it. Barry Manilow may claim to write the songs the whole world sings, but Souther writes songs that also touch your heart and make you think. Some of his big Eagles songs include “Victim of Love,” “Best of My Love” and “Heartache Tonight,” to name but a few. In addition to writing many memorable songs, Souther also produced early Linda Ronstadt albums and sang backing vocals on Christopher Cross and Don Henley albums. In fact, one of the best songs Henley has ever recorded, “The Heart of the Matter,” was co-written by Mike Campbell (Tom Petty’s trusty guitar sideman), Henley and Souther.
