A 22 year-old Soldier assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord is now in a Tacoma hospital on life support after an unexplainable event in Tacoma early Saturday morning.
KIRO News obtained a graphic home surveillance video showing a Tacoma Police officer’s squad car running over a man lying in the roadway.
The video also shows the Soldier, Emanuel Andrade, getting into a car at approximately 1 a.m. and then getting out and lying in the street.
A spokesperson for the Tacoma Police Department said the officer was “driving slowly, checking license plates, checking for car prowlers, and looking at his computer screen” when the incident occurred.
Having survived one tour in Afghanistan, Andrade now suffers from multiple fractures and contusions and is on life-sustaining medical devices at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He is the father of two children, ages 7 and 3.
The incident remains under investigation. It is not known if drugs or alcohol were involved.
There was no mention in the original reporting if police had been called into the area for a disturbance prior to the event or if the officer was on a routine patrol early Saturday.
The officer involved has not been placed on leave at this time.
