The 2013 edition of the iTunes Festival kicked off with a confetti filled bang Sept. 1 when Lady Gaga took the stage in London to perform new songs from her upcoming album “ARTPOP.” Gaga opened the set with Aura, a heavier dance track than we are used to hearing from Mother Monster. She was dressed as a glammed up ninja as she was lifted over the stage in a torturous looking contraption. Gaga continued to debut new music, and new looks, throughout the night.
Gaga closed the set with “Applause,” the lead single off of “ARTPOP” which will be available Nov. 11, 2013. “Applause” hasn't been the breakout hit that the industry has come to expect from Lady Gaga, but she's not worried. In an interview with UK news outlet Metro, Gaga explained, “I wanted to sell based on the record not just one single. I’m not a singles artist, I never have been. I’ve always made complete, full albums.”
iTunes Festival will continue throughout the month of September and all performances are available to stream live via iTunes. Notable acts include Queens of the Stone Age (Sept. 6), Elton John (Sept. 12) and Vampire Weekend (Sept. 15). The festival will close out Sept. 30 with a performance from pop superstar Katy Perry.
