Let’s say you want some new music for the summer of 2010. Maybe you want something for a road trip, for the numerous barbeques you may go to, or for a good time in general and if that is the case, Mishka is for you. Since 1999, the Bermuda born reggae artist has gained quite the underground following with his smooth voice and true to life lyrics.
After his chance meeting with Matthew McConaughey, Mishka was signed to McConaughey’s record label j.k. livin’. With Mishka’s album Above the Bones, released in 2009, he was named iTunes best new artist and debuted #1on the Billboard Reggae Charts. Heading into 2010 with his next release Talk About, Mishka is bound to take on that title and more.
With producer Butch Walker (Fall Out Boy, Pink, Pete Yorn), Talk About’s fifteen tracks move through a decidedly more pop-infused reggae style than Above the Bones. His opening track “Give Them Love” and the new single “Bittersweet” both set the rhythm for Talk About. It is very much a fast-paced and upbeat record, though it does move through a variation of tempos; with “Fallen To Rise” and “Shadow In The Shade” both slowing down the record as clear cut anthems of loving what you have after falling on hard times and encouraging someone else to do the same. Mishka's lyrics are truly inspiring and set to the backdrop of infectious music; you can’t help but want this record in your collection.
The release date for Talk About is March 30, 2010, but iTunes will have it available for download on March 23, 2010. Be sure to check out their tour dates to see when he is coming to Denver.
