Italy draws late 1-1 vs Paraguay

In a hard fought match Paraguay and defending champions Italy drew 1-1 in the Group F opener at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. The scoring opened in the 39th minute Aureliano Torres sent in a piercing free-kick into the box where Antolin Alcaraz cut in front of Italian midfielder Daniel De Rossi and elevated over Italian captain Fabio Cannavaro to header the Jabulani past Italian keeper Gigi Buffon into the bottom right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

The Italians drew the match at 1-1 in the 63rd minute when Paraguay keeper Justo Villar got caught in no man's land when he came out to collect Simone Pepe’s corner but the ball sailed over his head and watched Daniele De Rossi beat his marker to touch it into an empty net.
