The streets of Saluzzo, Italy resounded with music on the evening of June 22 as the city celebrated Festa della Musica 2013. The musical observation of the summer solstice is hugely popular in France, but has spread to parts of Italy and other locations worldwide.
Individual artists, rock bands, marching bands, student ensembles—all become street musicians on the longest day of the year. In Saluzzo, they entertained hundreds of local residents and visitors who strolled from one venue to another in the streets of this ancient town in the Piedmont region of Italy.
Nightfall comes late on June 22; the sun set over the distant Alps at nearly 9:20 pm in Saluzzo, and darkness did not fall until after 10pm. Near perfect weather enhanced the atmosphere for Festa della Musica 2013 in this small Italian city.
