Two of Italy's best chefs will be cooking up a storm in San Francisco in an international IMAFestival Chef's Cup face-off. Chef Rosanna Marziale and Chef Stefano Cerveni are the finalists of the first-ever competition among Italian Michelin starred chefs.
Vying for the prize of a San Francisco final round, the competition began with 14 famous chefs and a jury. In a competition beginning in May 2013, pairs of Michelin-starred chefs competed in seven stages in Rome, Florence, Parma, Milan, Perugia, Venice and Viareggio.
If you've always imagined that the life of a food critic would be grand, this is your chance. Guests become an important part of this Chef's Cup not only by watching the preparation, but also by sampling delicious and imaginative entries from the famous chefs.
In a renaissance-themed ready, steady, cook demonstration, chefs were challenged to create a dish drawing inspiration from art, including the worlds of painting, cinema, poetry, literature, photography, or music. Resulting entries were diverse as one can imagine, reflecting creations to echo the inimitable Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, the flirty fun of a Stan and Ollie comedy routine, the studied splash of a colorful Jackson Pollack.
In this final round, three consecutive nights of fine food are dedicated to the competition. Based at Il Fornaio, 1265 Battery Street near San Francisco's waterfront, a critical eye will be cast on tastiness, presentation, and adherence to theme. The jury includes Chef Anthony Fossani, Amy Sherman of Cooking With Amy and Mauro Cirilli, Sommelier of San Francisco's Press Club, with an assist from Il Fornaio's Chef Ivan Giansante and the restaurant's dinner guests.
