These cookies are made every year fro Christmas! This recipe may have come to us from Italy! It has been passed down for generations in my family. Mia Familia!
Louise's Italian Love Knots
- 5 ½ cups of flour
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- ½ pound of butter
- 6 eggs
- 5 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla **
Preheat oven to 375°.
Line 2 cookie sheets with no-stick foil.
Cream sugar and butter.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Add flour and powder.
Mix all ingredients together.
To form the “knot,” take about a tablespoon of dough; roll it out using your hands on a lightly floured surface. Then, cross the ends of the dough. This forms what looks like a knot. Place the knots on lined cookie sheet.
Bake for 12-15 minutes.
** For a unique flavor, add walnut, amaretto or banana flavoring in the place of the vanilla.
