‘It's up to’ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to knockout Brian Vera

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Brian Vera are set to again clash on March 1 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

In their original bout in September, the 27-year-old Chavez (47-1-1-1, 32 KOs) won a controversial unanimous decision over the 32-year-old Vera (23-7, 14 KOs).

Chavez was overweight and listless and many onlookers felt Vera deserved to triumph on the cards.

Somewhat amazingly, even Chavez’s promoter, Bob Arum, couldn’t sugarcoat his client’s lackadaisical showing.

"Putting aside the question of who won that fight, let's face it: It was a terrible performance," said Arum, 81, a corruptible weasel who acknowledged during a 2000 federal trial that he bribed the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to attain a higher ranking for one of his fighters.

"He turned it into a travesty with the weight. He has a chance in this fight to redeem himself by making the weight and putting on a good performance. But, will he? Who knows? I'm past the point of trying to predict what he'll do. I can't do it for him. His father can't. No one can. It's up to him.”

Born into wealth, Chavez has been pinched juicing, arrested driving drunk, and suspended for a positive marijuana test over the past four years.

Despite possessing a diligence comparable to Jeffrey Lebowki’s, “The Son of the Legend” is blessed with cement fists and a granite chin.

Although Vera is tough and brimming with testicular fortitude, it’s hard to envision that Chavez will have another “terrible performance” versus a journeyman pugilist.

Accordingly, expect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to “redeem himself” and knock Brian Vera onto Queer Street roughly six weeks from this evening.
