It's tulip season in Holland, Michigan

If you are visiting Traverse City during the month of May, you might want to consider a day trip to Holland, Michigan for their annual Tulip Time Festival, which runs May 7-14, 2011.

Six million tulips are planted throughout the town for the festival.  This festival draws around 1 million tourists each year, and it's been ranked as America's 3rd largest "town festival" and also by Reader's Digest as "best small town festival".  In addition to the tulip displays, the festival is also a celebration of Dutch heritage and culture.  The festival will provide plenty of entertainment such as traditional Dutch dances, live music, local talent, parades, an arts and crafts fair, and Dutch cuisine.

Holland, Michigan is about a 3 hour drive south of Traverse City.  Holland is best known for its Dutch heritage which is prevalent through the town's traditional Dutch architecture and character.  The town is also well known for their "Dutch Village", a family oriented theme park and shopping area.

Can't make it to Holland during the week of the festival?  You still might want to check out the town before or after the festival dates for fewer crowds and plenty of tulips.
