It's time to celebrate the Year of the Snake

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at South Bay Galleria on Saturday, February 9, from 1 until 3 p.m.

Regarded as the most important Chinese celebration of the year, Chinese New Year is a holiday traditionally used to generate good luck for the year to come and to wish peace and happiness to family and friends through gifts and celebration.

This special event will usher in the ‘Year of the Snake’ and give community members the opportunity to celebrate this important Chinese holiday with special performances, a red envelope gift and crafts.

Entertainment will include a traditional Lion Dance performed by local Chinese dancers, as well as a Kung Fu demonstration by local martial arts experts.

In addition, children will have the opportunity to participate in the festivities by making their very own Chinese New Year dragon and snake puppets, which they can then take home.

One of the major traditions of Chinese New Year is a red envelope gift which usually contains money and is given by adults to children to celebrate the New Year. As an added element of fun, South Bay Galleria employees will be handing out red envelopes containing $2 to the first 100 children at the event.

All the fun takes place in the Center Court of the Galleria.

South Bay Galleria is located at 1815 Hawthorne Boulevard in Redondo Beach.
