Life has its way of trying to dose us with cold water and quench our dreams doesn't it? We get motivated, catch a wave of momentum and off we go. And seemingly right after we start encountering problem after problem and begin to think that maybe it’s just not worth it. Isn’t it funny how we immediately take opposition as a sign that we should stop instead of the thing that makes us strive harder. Often the greatest blessings of life appear disguised as labor. If we learn to perceive what season we are in, we can ignite a flame that will propel us into our dreams.
This summer Lionsgate Productions are set to release the second installment in The Hunger Games Trilogy called The Hunger Games; Catching Fire. Promising to be a perfect follow up sci-fi thriller like the first, Catching Fire has the original heroine Katniss Everdeen played by Jennifer Lawrence participating in the 75th edition of the Hunger Games in Panem.
This one is sure to change the power structure of an already unstable government. What I found interesting was the amount of marketing a leading lady like Lawrence was receiving. This seemed to be the role of a life time and when asked why she embarked on bringing Katniss Everdeen alive on the big screen Lawrence replied, "I saw more than a role; I saw an opportunity to spark a revolution. Young women around the world can never get enough positive images in movies."
I believe that Beyoncé wasn't too far off when she belted out the lyrics to her smash hit “Run The World, Girls!" I wouldn't want to live in a world that hadn't been touched with the creativity of a woman. In fact, here are some great reasons for women to 'catch fire' for their lives:
• It's time to catch fire because life won't give you what's fair: Have you ever sat around waiting for life to give you a break? If you answered yes, chances are you were highly disappointed. Life isn't fair. There are good people who suffer while evil people prosper; it is what it is. You cannot control that aspect of it. But what you can control is your own decisions. When you decide to move forward is the moment strength and wisdom come alive in your heart. You can't access this until you begin to move in the direction of your destiny. Don't wait for it to happen, get up and make it happen!
• It's time to catch fire and collab with other women: Growing up in a house with three sisters and a mom, I had a firsthand view of what can happen in the life of women. I have seen ladies behaving badly. The reality is, circles of women are more likely to be contentious than circles of men. Don't get me wrong, we have our issues as well; just in different ways. What if you could walk into a room filled with your peers and feel nothing but love, support and affirmation? What could you accomplish? I believe we are witnessing a revolution of love and acceptance in many networks around the world. Ladies are bridging gaps while standing arm in arm. What a great time to make connections.
• It's time to catch fire and live a disciplined life: In many cultures, discipline is considered a dirty four letter word. We have this mindset toward discipline as if it is something negative. When in reality, discipline is the common thread between anyone successful. We have to learn to sacrifice today for the life we really deserve. You can shop till you drop this week only to live broke next week or you can arrange your lifestyle in the context of your finances. Once you discipline that area, you are able to manifest wealth.
Katniss is athletic, attractive and super courageous. She saves the day over and over in the movie. But real life isn't always so glamorous. Life can be difficult. Family, business and personal issues abound in all our lives. But no matter what the situation, we can tap into our internal motivation and literally 'catch fire'. We may not be competing for the safety of all humanity, but our personal goals can seem the biggest things in our lives.
