This is the time of the year when we are getting everything ready for going back to school even when we don’t have children. And this is also a time when change is happening for our FFBF. Our pets see, smell and sense the change in and around us. One of the biggest that we don’t think about is, when our pet goes to work with us, they see children going off to school and want to go too. Or and this is one many of us do without giving any thought to our pet, we change our driving route to avoid school buses. Our pet may think we are going on a play date or to the Vet.
Let’s give them some extra attention and let them settle into the fall schedule. If we do have pets and children, this can be a social event. The pet sees the children they play with and protect, going out the door and being gobbled up by a big orange thing that is loud; so they chase it. We need to not leave our pets to their own resources this time of year. And this can be just as traumatic if the children belong to our neighbor, however our pets play with them daily.
Bring the pet inside and now we can have some one on one time. Let them know we love them and all is O.K... Maybe take them for a walk during the middle of the day, when no school buses are around or by car take them where no school buses are. Spend some quality time with them, Take them to your office or work if appropriate, make friends with them again. Give them the special treatment. And be sure they have tags and identifying information on them, if lost.
