It's the Weekend! BACON!!! Bacon Wrapped Spears of Splendor

You deserve it! You deserve something special, something to remember. It's the weekend. It's your time. After a long week of putting up with crap, problems and idiots, you deserve to kick back and enjoy your time.

When you are looking for something to satiate your tastbuds you usually search for two taste elements: sweet and salty. Well, with this one very simple, yet very elegant dish, you get both! There may not be a better culinary marriage than the natural sweet and fresh taste of pineapple combined with the smokey slight saltiness of bacon. When you take this marriage and then grill it, the tastes become even more pronounced and what you end up with is nothing short of rapture!

To help you prepare this dish you will notice in the slideshow there are how-to pictures to turn your whole fresh pineapple into spears. It is a very easy task that just requires a sharp knife. To make putting the spears together much easier, make sure your bacon is at room temperature as then it will be more pliable to wrap around the spears without tearing or breaking.

Ingredients needed to make Hawaiian Spears of Splendor:

  • 1 pineapple (see slideshow for preparation)
  • 1 lb. smoked bacon
  • Maple Syrup for drizzling

Steps:
  1. Pre-heat your broiler or grill.
  2. Prepare the pineapple by removing the crown. Slice the pineapple, lengthwise, into quarters. Slice each quarter, lengthwise in half. The slideshow will show you this procedure.
  3. Remove the core (tough middle part) from each slice of pineapple and discard. Remove the rind from each slice and discard.
  4. Wrap each spear of pineapple in bacon and secure with a toothpick.
  5. Place the wrapped pineapple spears on a baking sheet (or on the grill).
  6. Place under the broiler (or on the grill) and cook until the bacon is at your desired doneness.
  7. Remove and place on a serving platter and drizzle with maple syrup.
