A few weeks back, I wrote about the pending brewpub legislation in Texas, HB 660, that would allow Texas brewpubs to either self-distribute or sell to distributors, something they cannot do now, thus allowing Texans to get beer from Texas brewpubs all over the state. Quite a lot has happened since then, including Texas Beer Freedom (TBF) a non-profit organization and distributors finding a little common ground. The battle is still up hill though.
To help with the efforts to bring awareness, Texas Beer Freedom is holding a rally in downtown San Antonio appropriately named the ‘Rally For Texas Beer Freedom’. The event is held in the Main Plaza by the San Fernando Cathedral and will feature Texas State Representative Mike Villareal and Scott Metzger (TBF President and Freetail Brewing Co. owner) talking about the bills importance.
On hand will be free samples of beer made my local Texas Brewpubs such as Freetail Brewing and Blue Star Brewing. Samples will be around only until about 6:30, so get their quick. The event will last until 10:00 PM and feature music by Michael Martin and The Infidels from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Oh and did I mention it’s free to attend and family friendly?
If the bill passes, not only could you purchase beer from brewpubs around Texas, but the bill would help promote small business growth in Texas, increase state revenue, and would not change the existing 3-Tier distribution system much.
If you’re just hearing about this issue and want more information, or you want to lend your support, head on down. It’s a cause that affects every citizen in Texas.
