1 of PowerAMP's homescreens
1 of PowerAMP's homescreens

So being a music head I look for apps that can enhance my music experience. And the beauty about Android is you don’t have to use the stock Music player. Now there are all types of music players out there. We should all give it up for the Guys and Gals at XDA. The XDA forums are buzzing with tips, apps, download, etc. PowerAMP has got to be the best music player I’ve seen thus far. It’s developed by MAX MP ( Here is what I’ve found:

  • plays mp3, mp4/m4a (including alac), ogg, wma, flac, wav, ape, wv, tta
  • 10 band graphical equalizer for all supported formats, presets
  • separate Bass and Treble adjucement
  • plays songs from folders and from system media library
  • downloads missing album art
  • widgets
  • lock screen
  • headset support
  • scrobbling
  • tag editor
  • visual themes
  • fast folders scan
  • works on Android 2.1+
  • Fast scan of files (in 1 second 1000files, depends on phone speed)

Customization features:

  • PowerAMP has number of useful settings, allowing pretty high level of customization:
  • Startup Screen selection
  • Themes
  • Music Folders selection
  • Various advanced Folder options, like system scanner disabler or non-unicode tag encoding selection
  • Sorting for folders/files/system library songs
  • Album art options: animation, download options
  • List item/menu click options
  • Headset
  • Scrobbling
  • Lock Screen customization
  • Various Look and Feel tweaks, like screen orientation, Status Bar options, etc.

I was told this is not in the Android Market; but if you do a search for MAX MP and see if it comes up. The Website actually stated that as of November 1st it is available on the Android Market. The guys over at XDA-developers suggest the best way to download is to go to: HotFile and FileServe:

Thanks misticjeff! Check out the photos and video to the left.
