Hardenbrook finally chased down that savory smell of lamb, and it was well worth the wait. The lamb was delectable and had impeccable flavor that was far more incredible than the aroma.
Later on, Hardenbrook got to meet the chef and owner, Deanna Ferry, and her daughter, Tiffany Leeper, who were hard at work serving up samples to eager patrons.
“This is lamb from The Great American Lamb Company,” Tiffany Leeper said. “My mom’s name is Deanna Ferry and she’s the one who makes everything.”
It’s not uncommon for the vendors here at North Union Farmers Market to work together, use each other’s products and help each other in promoting one another’s product.
“Tiffany, my daughter, was correct,” said Deanna Ferry of D.M. Ferry Originals, said. “I had the great luck of being next to The Great American Lamb Company at the Chagrin Falls North Union Farmers Market last season. I found his products to be superior, and the people going to the market agreed.”
Ferry also uses Sirna Farm sausage to go with her gourmet mustards. Hardenbrook has had the pleasure of tasting the Italian sausage and the seasonings are like no other. And the fact that there is practically no fat added is a nice bonus.
“I sample Mackenzie Creamery and their fantastic goat cheese products to accompany my fruit butters and wine jellies,” said Ferry. “It is something that I do. We all just work together to promote the high quality of items that you can find at the market.”
Always eager to try something new, Ferry discovered a few different things as she was making her chutneys.
“I have learned a lot about spices and flavors that I wouldn’t ordinarily be working with; lamb would be one of them,” said Ferry.
Ferry does not like minted jelly, but felt that since it was often put together with lamb she had to use the condiment. So, she had an idea.
“The Great American Lamb Company does a good job, and their meat is very much something to build on with a chutney or perhaps, Minted Apple Relish,” said Ferry.
Ferry makes an array of products such as wine jellies, seasonal butters and gourmet mustards. She prides herself in using ingredients from her fellow vendors and locals.
Once again, Hardenbrook urges you to stop by The Indoor Winter Market at Shaker Square no telling what Ferry will be cooking this Saturday, but if you go, you’ll definitely get to taste it.
See you there or be square.
