Small business owners juggle a lot of different business aspects on a daily basis. Wintertime can be a time to relax and hibernate (unless you own a winter focused business). Today is the first day of Spring and, hopefully, the weather in your area is beautiful.

Today is the day to get ready for a new season of business and customers. Today is the day to inspect your "Physical Plant, Property and Equipment". Grab your tablet or note pad and get ready to be brutal about your small business.

It doesn't matter if you own a store front business, a warehouse or a manufacturing plant. The first impression that your customers, clients or distributors have is the outside of your business. Walk around and look for anything that looks weatherbeaten, tired or worn out. Take a step back or, better yet, take a picture of your business from across the street. Download the picture and look at it on a big screen. What do you see? If you don't like it, fix it.

Now, walk around inside your business. Look for dust or dirt. Do you have product displays? When was the last time they were changed? Clean up and rearrange. Make a new display. A small business cannot afford to look stagnant. It doesn't matter if your product hasn't changed in fifty years. Time to change the display.

How are your point of sales systems and software? Old, slow, and really outdated? It doesn't have to cost a ton of money. Look on the internet or ask friends. Do you belong to a small business association? Your small business association can be a huge help. Spring is a great time to look around and ask how point of sales could be improved.

Finally, look in the mirror. What do you see? Old, slow and really outdated. Be honest. Remember that you are the most important asset in your business. Take care of yourself. Take a walk. Get a massage. Have coffee with friends. Whatever renews your spirit is what you should do.

Today is the first day of Spring. Get going!
