This year Paddy's day , March 17, falls on a Sunday, which is an added incentive for folks to celebrate as most people do not work that day With the large population of Irish descendants living in the different cities of Orange County, it is easy to find a restaurant, bar, or public place celebrating St Patrick's Day.
1. One of the largest of these, is the 7th Annual St Patrick's Day celebration taking place on Sunday at the Orange County Market Place, 88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This Irish Fest combines Eco-friendly vendors, with leprechaun magic and champion Irish dance school exhibitions.
Beside the dance numbers which include over a 100 dancers, many of which are world champions, there will be other green performances such as plastic bag and recycled fashion shows put on by 'Haute Trash' a nonprofit artist collaborative, that designs fashion out of trash. The blarney spirit will be alive with strolling leprechauns, game booths, mini-stage presentations, and gourmet food trucks selling green beer, lemonade and green mint ice cream.
Admission to the Fest is included with the usual swap meet. The general admission of $2 per person over 12 years and kids under 12 free, it includes the Irish fest.
2. Another exciting St Patrick's Day event takes place at the Pretend City Children's Museum, 29 Hubble, Irvine, from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. This fun filled event is specifically for children, also has lots for grown-ups to enjoy ,when they bring the kids. Everyone is encouraged to wear something green.
There will be treasure hunts, Irish art, leprechaun visits, and dancing to a leprechaun beat as the rainbow ribbons soar up high, then down low. Kids can use their color identification skills to go on a treasure hunt, through the museum, to find their own 'pot of gold'. Admission to the museum is $12.50 which includes the St Patrick's Day event.
3. The City National Grove of Anaheim, 2200 East Katella Ave, Anaheim Calif is having a St. Patrick's day concert, with the Irish Rock band - The Fenians - performing on Mar 17 at 8 p.m. This five-man band has toured Ireland and the United States since 1990, and in 1999 they became part of the 'Guinness Wall of Fame'. The concert, which showcases Irish folk tunes, gets the crowd dancing and singing along with them. This is a dinner show which includes gourmet appetizers, various entrees and tasty desserts at prices that range from $22.50 - $25 per person.
4. O’Neill’s Bar & Grill in Mission Viejo is hosting St Patrick's Day celebrations starting with an Irish Brunch from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. with music by Adam Jones; the special Irish dinner from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. will have music provided by an Irish Trio - Kris Colt and the Black Rose Band; and for those who like late night entertainment, from 8 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. the Barenaked 80's will entertain.
