Drumline: A New Beat

VH1 in partnership with Fox Television Studios is producing a sequel to the 2002 hit movie “Drumline.” The sequel is titled “Drumline: A New Beat” and will air on VH1 in the fall of 2014. Nick Cannon is serving as executive producer and will reprise his role as Devon Miles in a cameo appearance. The sequel is directed by Billie Woodruff. Filming has reportedly concluded in Atlanta, Ga. According to VH1 the storyline is not the traditional sequel.

“Drumline: A New Beat” will capture the sound and spirit of the first film while welcoming a whole new class to the Atlanta A & T drumline. The story follows Danielle (Dani) Bolton, an upper class Brooklyn girl who defies her parents in order to attend Atlanta A & T so she can join – and revitalize – their once-prominent drumline. Dani’s quest to become the first female section leader of the drumline in the school’s history will be hampered by upperclassmen (including her cousin, Tyree), her feelings for fellow band mate and rival, Jayven, and the school’s cross town competitors.”

Leonard Roberts will reprise his role as Sean Taylor, however he is now returning as the new band director at Atlanta A & T. Letoya Luckett stars as Dr. Nia Phillips the Dean at Atlanta A&T that supports Sean’s return as the new band director. The twist is that Sean’s brother, Kevin Taylor is the band director of the rival band to beat and Kevin also happens to be the ex-husband of Dr. Phillips.

According to VH1, “Drumline: A New Beat” is the next movie fueling VH1′s successful momentum into the scripted arena. VH1 delivered the highest-rated original cable movie of 2013 among adults 18-49 with “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.”

Dallas Austin returns as executive producer for “Drumline: A New Beat” along with Nick Cannon, Wendy Finerman, Jody Gerson, Lisa Zupan, Maggie Malina, Alexander A. Motlagh of POP Films and Michael Goldman. Susan Levison and Jill Holmes will executive produce for VH1.
