It's Saturday, January 23rd-- Watch a Shakespearean comedy or tribal bellydancing showcase

It's a universal experience: the weekend finally rolls around, and you're ready to dress up and go out, but you've been so busy that you couldn't plan anything to do.  Being goth in South Carolina doesn't make it easier, since there aren't a lot of morbid options.  So what's a darkling to do?  Try out one of these unique options going on tonight, January 23rd, 2010, only!

William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream will have its final performance tonight.  A production of the South Carolina Shakespeare Company, the play is a witty comedy complete with fairies and potions.  It marks the company's winter production and includes a few student actors through the company's Artist-in-Residence program at Hammond Middle School.  The play starts at 7:30 p.m. in the spacious theater, lasts for about 2 hours, and has an intermission.  Adult tickets are $10 each, and they're $5 for children.  For directions, click here.

Delirium Tribal will hold its East Coast All-Star Bellydance Showcase at the Art Bar tonight.  The 21+ show lasted all night last year, and a multitude of bellydancers from up and down the East Coast will now descend on Columbia once again.  The spectacular art of tribal bellydancing, featuring goth-inspired costumes, will excite and inspire anyone.  As a fundraiser, the show has a $5 cover charge.  It begins at 10 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m., but the after-party will go on indefinitely!  For directions, click here.

Take your pick and have fun! Both events will be reviewed in the coming week, so check back for follow-ups!

I often struggle with the lack of interesting local hot spots. I have not seen A Midsummer Night's Dream in a long time and would love to check that out. I didn't know it was playing around here. Thanks for the mention of it. The Bellydance Showcase at Art Bar sounds great as well. The admission prices are very reasonable. My weekend is looking up now thanks to your informative posting.

Hmm, I was having a hard time picking which one i should check out, but I've been psyched to see the Midsummer Nights Dream Performance for a while now, and the fact that that was the last performance pretty much sealed the deal for me.
