Unfailing love and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed! Truth springs up from the earth and righteousness smiles down from heaven. Yes, the LORD pours down his blessings. Our land will yield its bountiful harvest. Righteousness goes as a herald before him, preparing the way for his steps.
When it rains, it pours. Ever had a day, week, month, year or season feel like if it is not one thing, it’s another. Problems come with compounding interest as one thing leads precariously to another. Just about the time you think you can manage the load, another burden is unceremoniously dumped on your back. Striving to maintain one’s commitment to the Lord requires that believers learn to roll and repose the weight in life to stay on course and keep up the pace to follow Jesus. Buckling under the pressure of life, it is not wrong to cry out to the Lord but do not expect Him to arrive as you envisioned. To see God’s Arrival, we must know what to expect. Jesus offers His Yoke to us which is total dependency on the Father. Jesus trusts God. Even though this should be obvious, to trust Jesus means that we must also trust God. Jesus came to this earth as a man who was God’s Word wrapped in flesh. (John 1:14) We can more easily identify with Jesus because He lived as a man therefore able to identify more readily with our plight making grace accessible through His Sacrifice. But to follow Jesus always leads to the Father. His Presence has some certain variables. Unfailing Love and Truth met together. This is the partnership between God and His Son. Righteousness and peace have kissed or entered a covenant through the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ making righteousness possible for God’s People again. The Lord can now pour out His Blessings in our life. We have access to a “bountiful harvest”. Righteousness goes before Him preparing the way for His Steps. Stop right there! Righteousness is the only way that any human being can move into the Presence of God. It is the access point by which God’s Blessing and Harvest become available. Grace did not bypass righteousness but made it possible. Without faith it is impossible to please God, we must believe God, trusting Jesus and walking in His Ways to enter His Presence gaining access to every blessing and promise that remains there.
I must admit that I am in a season of raining and pouring. I can promise you the hits just keep on coming and I am running on low reserves. Seeking the Lord for answers, why is it so hard right now? Why is my faith staggering? Why is life so very hard right now? Honest questions to my God are answered in His Word. I desire the blessings of God in my life for our family. I have sowed seed for a harvest but when will it come. God’s Answer is rain and lots of it. Storms are raging and pounding my faith. What I thought might destroy me, I have now discovered is the Lord. He is coming. He comes like the rain!
2 Samuel 22:8-16 (NLT)
“Then the earth quaked and trembled. The foundations of the heavens shook; they quaked because of his anger. Smoke poured from his nostrils; fierce flames leaped from his mouth. Glowing coals blazed forth from him. He opened the heavens and came down; dark storm clouds were beneath his feet. Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. He shrouded himself in darkness, veiling his approach with dense rain clouds. A great brightness shone around him, and burning coals blazed forth. The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. He shot arrows and scattered his enemies; his lightning flashed, and they were confused. Then at the command of the LORD, at the blast of his breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen, and the foundations of the earth were laid bare.”
This seems like a frightening revelation. The earthquakes, darkness and blazing coals coming from dense rain clouds. It is the Lord thundering from Heaven. But this is not how we envisioned His Arrival, it would be a happy homecoming right? With music and angels and big white pearly gates as we are ushered into His Presence at least that is what one might think. The worlds shakes in close proximity to God in His Righteousness as its sinful condition makes it vulnerable to His Judgment. Grace will only cover the righteous so the rest are at great risk. Is this the Faithful and Loving God that we serve why would He come so furiously and perilously…
2 Samuel 22:17-20 (NLT)
“He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the LORD supported me. He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.”
The storm in your life is not God punishing you but rather His Approach to rescue you! He is coming to you but cannot help remaining true to His Identity and Nature. He is God. Unfailing Love and Truth are available and fully accessible through righteousness but outside of God’s Grace everything is subject to His Justice. “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.” (Psalm 89:14) Righteousness allows to face judgment unharmed. His Unfailing Love and Truth have provided sufficient grace to make this possible but only for those who choose to walk in His Ways. You have nothing to fear in the storms of life is you are found to be righteous by faith and confident hope in Jesus!
Amos 9:5-6 (NLT)
The Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, touches the land and it melts, and all its people mourn. The ground rises like the Nile River at flood time, and then it sinks again. The LORD’s home reaches up to the heavens, while its foundation is on the earth. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The LORD is his name!
God draws up water from the earth and pours down rain. The contents of the water determines the condition of the rain. When pollutants cause toxicity to be drawn up into the clouds, acid rain is produced and pours out killing that which it was designed to nourish. The same is true of our life offering to God. What you give God determines what you can expect to receive. (Luke 6:38) If you do not live in right standing with God by faith in Jesus Christ, you can expect judgment. If you live in righteousness, then you can expect blessings and prosperity. God is no respecter of persons and does not judge individually but according to the Truth. So if you know the Truth, it can certainly set you free. (John 8:32) God’s Outpouring should be desired in our life naturally and supernaturally. Even though He comes through storms, rains and floods, what the Lord has to offer is definitely worth having. The Lord wants to shower His Grace in our life. (Ephesians 1:5-7) The Lord longs to send us His Spirit to empower and strengthen us body, mind and soul. (Acts 2:32-33) He wants to send us joy. (Hebrews1:8-9) His Special Favor awaits us. (I Corinthians 15:9-10) Not only do we benefit supernaturally, but physically and fiscally. (Malachi 3:10) God’s Blessings reserved for His People who live in righteousness are as countless as the raindrops in a storm. But few are willing to go through the storm to collect the raindrops of blessing in each one.
2 Kings 4:3-6 (NLT)
And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim!
“Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing.
The woman had faith in the prophet. She had faith in God. So when he told her to gather as many empty jars as she could she was faithful and obediently did just what Elisha asked. As she began to empty her small jar of olive oil, God blessed her faithfulness and obedience to righteousness and somewhere in the process began pouring out His Oil supernaturally in her life. It did not stop until she ran out of room to receive it. Those pressures and burdens of life that have left you empty are with purpose. God is waiting to fill you up! His Blessing is coming if you will surrender your “empty vessel” to the Lord in righteousness, faithfulness and obedience. This world will never satisfy your longings or bring contentment to your heart. You are created in the Image of God with high standards. Eternity is in your heart longing to connect with the Presence of God once again. The measure of faith hidden in your heart is pushing its way from the inside to the outside exploding into a harvest in your life. What are you holding back? Let it go and your life will begin to manifest the promises, blessings and favor of God! He didn’t send the storm to harm you but to bless you! Are you ready to catch the outpouring that He is sending or are you stopping the rain? After Hannah poured her heart out to God, she was happy again. Her promise had not arrived but her faith was renewed. (I Samuel 1:14-18)
Romans 2:7-8 (NLT)
He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.
Righteousness has a requirement. You must be faithful to the Lord. You must walk in His Way. You must give to make room to receive. Anger and wrath are still possible for those who call on the Name of the Lord but walk away from His Grace. People do it all the time. They want the blessings of God but do not desire a relationship with Him. You cannot have it both ways. The rain falls on the righteous and the wicked. But only the righteous can remain strong in the storm and not be washed away in fear and doubt. God does not want to pour out anger and judgment on His People. (I Thessalonians 5:5-11) He laid it all out in His Word. God does not change therefore He cannot lie or change His Mind – praise Him! (Numbers 23:19) Grace does not change who God is. Grace is a way to encounter God just like He is! For those who remain in righteousness, His Presence is not to be feared but becomes a place of constant refuge. (Isaiah 4:5-6)
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
What is the foundation of your life today? Is it faith in Jesus Christ? This is the only foundation that can whether the storm of God approaching. As we seek His Presence, He will come like the rain. Are you ready to receive it today? Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Anyone who listens to the Word and then does what it says has nothing to fear in the Presence and Power of God because righteousness has been established by faithfulness. It is a firm foundation. Confident hope will anchor your soul no matter what is on the horizon. (Hebrews 6:19) As we pour out our life as a liquid offering to God, He will send the rain to melt the hard places and prepare room for us to receive more pressed down, shaken together and running over into our lap. God loves you! He wants to bless you! He will not change who He is to accommodate the sin that remains in your life but do everything in His Power to wash it away and get His Blessing and Promises to you! God wants His Favor to flow into and through your life. Are you ready? When it rains, it will pour. That’s okay, at least now you know what to expect!
Proverbs 10:25 (NLT)
When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.
