The following is a brief transcript from Mike Love’s upcoming interview in the Summer 2011 edition of Endless Summer Quarterly.
David Beard: Initially, 15 Big Ones was to be a double album, why was it scaled down to one disc?
Mike Love: I was just thinking that it was a function of, “Can we get 15 songs on a LP because it was our 15th year of making music?” So it was more of a consideration of putting 15 songs on an LP to align with 15 years. Prior to Pet Sounds Capitol Records was looking for an album to release. Brian got so much pressure form Capitol Brian decided to record the Party! album…the same concept applied to 15 Big Ones.
