Seattle Seahawks fans are known as the “12th Man” and are known to be the loudest fans of the NFL. The “12th Man” was put to the test at the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers game and Komo News was proud to report that on September 15, 2013 the “12th Man” did beat the previous world record for the worlds loudest crowd. The noise level in the stadium was earth shacking and clearly had an impact on the San Francisco 49ers who were not used to the extremely loud “12th Man.”
A group called “Volume 12" put up the funds for the Guinness World Record official to come to Seattle to make the event official and they were not let down. In fact the “12th Man” beat the previous world record in the first quarter before the rain delay took place. Some say that they were not even trying yet. The Seattle Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers with a final score of 3 to 29. For the “12th Man” and “Volume 12" it was a wining situation that no fans, the Seahawks or the 49ers will forget.
Previously the Guinness World Record was 131.76 decibels. It was set in 2011 in Turkey at the Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex Turk Telekom Arena during the soccer match that was held between Galatasaray SC and Fenerbahce. The Seahawks “12th Man” reached 131.9 decibels without even realizing it when the crowd voiced excitement over San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, being sacked.
“Volume 12" is not associated with the Seattle Seahawks, aside from being fans and members of the “12th Man.”
