Amid pure speculation on whether or not one of the cast members of Scandal Season 4 would be returning, the word has finally come down. Earlier today, Columbus Short, who plays Harrison on Scandal released this statement produced by his publicist:

“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank [creator] Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you GLADIATORS, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series. I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”

As we all know Short has been with Scandal since Season 1, playing the mild mannered, grateful gladiator to Olivia Pope (aka) Kerry Washington. During the Season 3 finale, which bought in record ratings, gladiators everywhere were left wondering if (Harrison) had been "handled" by B613. However, most knew that he would be written off due to personal issues outside of his career.

Keep in mind though, Short isn't the first cast member to be written out of Scandal. Henry Ian Cusick, who played the player of the Gladiators, Stephen Finch, went on to pursue other offers. James Novak (aka) Dan Bucatinsky who was Cyrus Beene's (Jeff Perry) husband, was killed as well.

Wheather Short was fired or quit is left to wonder but rumors had been circulating for weeks. Rumors that Shonda Rhimes, producer of the show warned that it would be inevitable if his personal issues weren't resolved. She stated on Jimmy Fallon after the finale, that it is always hard to let someone know that have been let go, but she does it delicately.

There is a group on Facebook for Scandalholics that has been speculating as to who would be the replacement if Short were to leave. Some include: Idris Alba, Don Cheadle, Nelsan Ellis, Antoine Fuqua or even Derek Luke. Who ever he is going to be if there will be that character again, they definetely want him to have a real love interest. Who would you like to see as a Gladiator? Feel free to use the comments on if you think Harrison being let go was the right move for the show. As you remember Ms. Rhimes doesn't play when it comes to public nuisances such as what happened on Grey's Anatamy!
