According to the Purple Rose Theatre Company, Jeff Daniels, acclaimed actor, PRTC Executive Director, and advocate for his home state of Michigan, will play the lead role in Aaron Sorkin’s new show on HBO.
Oscar winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin’s new series is tentatively titled More As This Story Develops and centers on a cable news anchor (Daniels) and his team working in today’s media.
(Ed. note: If you long for the days when the 'news' was more about journalistic integrity than entertainment, this may be your next favorite program.)
HBO has commissioned ten episodes and says the show will follow the team on a ‘patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.’ The series will also feature Sam Waterson, Emily Mortimor, Alison Pill and Dev Patel.
'This is great news for Jeff and HBO. We could not be happier for our founder, leader and friend,' stated PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville.
Jeff Daniels founded the Purple Rose Theatre in 1991 in his home town of Chelsea, Michigan, to promote the development of new American theatre and its practitioners. Later this month PRTC will be restaging Jeff Daniels’ ‘Escanaba in da’ Moonlight’ … the original play that spawned a popular movie and two other plays.
