It's Official—Han Solo and Boba Fett Solo Movies Get The Green Light from Disney

It's official. There will be at least two Star Wars solo movies (with hints that there might be more) before Episode Seven. Disney's CEO and chairman, Bob Iger officially announced that Han Solo and Boba Fett will be getting their own spin-off films, which will also feature several other Star Wars characters, such as Jabba the Hutt, Chewie and perhaps even Darth Vader.

Screenwriters Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) and Lawrence Kasden (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) are developing the scripts as I write this column. The screenwriting duo will also develop and write the story for the first movie in the new trilogy, Episode 7, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.

As for the solo films—The Han Solo film will take place in the time period between Episode 3, Revenge of the Sith and Episode 4, A New Hope and require the part of Han to be recast with a younger actor. The Boba Fett film would probably star Temuera Morrison, the actor who played Boba's dad in Episodes 2 and 3, since Boba is his clone. Boba's film is to take place sometime between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back or perhaps between Empire and Return of the Jedi.

As for the directors for these solo pics— well there's no word yet, although Captain America director Joe Johnston has expressed interest in directing the Boba Fett film, since it was Johnston who designed the character when he worked for Lucas' ILM back in the day.

So are you excited about the new Star Wars solo pics? Let us know what you think.
