It's not the size of your boobs or jeans that matter

If it’s true we are a male dominated society run by a testosterone mindset then why are there more women on the planet than men? It’s a different world in today’s culture for a woman than it was say back in your mother’s day, but aren’t we forgetting something vitally important to the role of being woman in front of our daughters. Culture values female bodies as “body parts” thanks to advertising and “girls gone wild,” but there is more so much more to being a full-blooded woman no matter what society you live in.

Teach your daughters well to love their bodies

I can’t shelter my daughters from the fact that culture will tell they need to be prettier, skinnier, firmer, sexier, smoother, younger or “somebody’s baby,” or from vodka bottles straddled by a perfectly waxed, female-like model. What she will know is the amount of brains for her buck, that she is worth more than a gawk, and that her curves however they are proportioned are an artistic masterpiece made from the rib of her mother, and her mother’s mother, and her mother’s mother before that.

Hospitalizations for children (under the age of 12) with eating disorders is up 119%

Our children fear fat so much they are in the hospital. Our juvenile females are over-sexed and bombarded by unhealthy marketing esteem. If you think the internet needs to be marshaled you should think about the machine gun carrying advertisers that explode human being blasphemy all over the TV, radio and magazines. A sales pitch? The ad companies have taken the meaning of woman and it exploited it to hell and back.

Media and music videos are using more pornography imagery

Advertising, video games and the music industry, although they are not the only ones, have crossed the lines and are manipulating healthy sexuality into what is titillating and better left behind closed doors. What used to be a glimpse of cleavage, is now women on top of men in bed. It is a perverse use of sexuality for profit. Sexuality is not about how much skin you show, it’s about connecting emotionally, spiritually and physically. Stop the sexualization of young girls in the media.

Dads are more powerful than you think

In her book Strong Fathers, Strong Fathers 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know,” pediatrician Meg Meeker shares the fact that “a father’s life is far more important than we’ve ever realized. A father gives you self-esteem and the courage to be a strong confident woman and has the power to bring a “prodigal daughter” back.

How can you build a healthier daughter with her self-esteem intact:

  • Stop all negative talk about your own body or someone else’s body. Your daughter is watching.
  • Throw out the bathroom scale. Give the message you are happy with what you’ve got.
  • Talk to your children, boys and girls about the messages media sends out. The messages are not real and they are not healthy, they are a means to an end to sell a product, and a poor demonstration of what is important to this society. Talk to them about photoshop and airbrush methods. Ask “What did you think?” “How did it make you feel?”
