According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch on Friday, Mayor Dwight C. Jones has been evolving, or at least his opinion on charter schools has been evolving.
Rather than call up images of Darwin and the survival of the fittest, we are led to believe this epiphany by the Mayor will lead us toward a brighter future in the education of out children, including solving the problem of 12 of Richmond's schools being labeled as failing.
Mayor Jones needs to take off the rose-colored glasses he surely must be wearing and look at what is going on in the real world. While we are talking about the real world, let's look at the Richmond School Board.
The school board has had all kinds of issues thrown at them, often with very little response time allowed, and additionally has been repeatedly told they would be helped out by City Council, and that has come to naught.
With the "good old boys" mentality of the Mayor's cronies, it certainly seems like the only thing of importance is getting the Jones agenda up and running, and to H*** with everything else. We are talking about the Shockoe Bottom baseball stadium deal, folks.
So let's us see what all the Mayor will come to resolve as he evolves. And we need to watch out for any changes in this evolution, just in case.
