"As long as Christmas renews the world - as long as we ask and receive, and knock and it is opened - as long as we see the Many Mansions and the Living Vine of which we are the branches - the positivists rage in vain. Let nothing you dismay! 'Christs own renaissance' shall come, the candles and the holly shall glow, the cards shall ring. There is no room in the academic inn, and and the children of this world, like Herod hold the sword. But the children of men can never prevail against the child who is God." E. Merrill Root
Christmas is nearly upon us once again in the Great State of Alabama. manger scenes are going up in towns across our state. Mayors in cities like Valley, AL are making their Christmas proclamations. The official Christmas Tree arrived in Montgomery, AL on December 2; a beautiful 36' tall Eastern Red Cedar. Don't be afraid to share the joy with your fellow Alabamians.
Sadly we live in a day and age where the simple act of saying Merry Christmas has become an act of witnessing in a hostile environment. It's 2013 and no Alabamian should have to compromise their beliefs to appease others. There is still no place in the inn of many men's hearts for the Creator. He is still relegated to the stable.
The Christ entered this world not in the robes of royalty or in the palace of a king. he made His appearance in the swaddling cloth of a peasant and an ancient stable amongst the cow, the donkey, and the sheep. It was a mediocre setting for the birth of one who would leave a lasting mark on the world.
The accuracy of the exact date or time is inconsequential. The fact that he made His appearance lives in the hearts of His countless followers throughout the ages. The positivists, the atheists, the nihilist, the progressives, etc will rail against both Christ and Christmas to no avail. We will not bend, bow, or break to their hate and discrimination.
"To men of faith, Christmas is a magic time - despite the garish commercialism, and the sodden orgies, which obscure the meaning of the Christian holy day." Dan Smoot
Christmas is a time to celebrate the humble birth of the Messiah, a time to reconnect with family and friends, a time to give from the heart, and to see joy in the faces of children. A time to volunteer to help the needy, feed the hungry, clothe the cold, and restore man's faith in his fellow man. Don't allow the cold-hearted opponents of Christmas to steal it's true meaning.
It is a time to reunite the Creator with His creation. It is a time for the wayward sheep to be found by the shepherd. We cannot stand idly by while those who wage war on us succeed. The modern Pharisees who try to legislate it away must be opposed.
Their goal is to crush the believer so they will bear no fruit. They seek to make the hearts of all just as hopeless as theirs. the seek to extinguish the fire of faith with their ideologies. They fail to see that Christmas like Christianity is akin to the mighty oak. The acorn was a child of humble birth long ago. An acorn who has grown into a mighty tree with deep roots and strong branches. Choose to disbelieve if you wish, but we will not cease or desist from our exercise of religious freedom.
What does Christmas mean to you Alabama? Are you one of the strong branches? Will you stand your ground and openly display your Christmas spirit? Will you join in celebrating the miracle of Christ as you see fit? Will you exercise your freedom as an American citizen? Will you share your joy with the scorners and deniers?
Will you forgo the debauchery for the reverent beauty of Christmas? Will you proudly stand as a son or daughter of the King? I extend a heartfelt "Merry Christmas" to all my fellow Alabamians; whether you believe it or not. Let the light of the season shine in both your heart and your lives.
