It's Margarita sipping on Cinco de Mayo

According to Epicurious.com the hands-down favorite margarita is made of blanco tequila, Curacao (Cointreau was the top pick), and fresh lime juice -- served in a rocks glass with ice, no garnish. Epicurious polled 25 of the country's top bartenders - from Los Angeles to New York, New Orleans to Chicago - to find out what the pros consider must-have ingredients. There was a 36 percent split between no salt on the rim and half salt on the rim. 52 percent opted for a lime garnish; 76 percent said no simple syrup; 92 percent mixed in lime juice, and 80 percent used tequila only (90 percent used blanco and 10 percent used reposada). Triple Sec is usually produced in France; just maybe the most well known one - Curacao - was born on a small Caribbean island with the same name

The original purist recipe from Cointreau:
Perfect Margarita

  • 2 oz. Tequila
  • 1 oz. Triple Sec or Curacao
  • ¾ oz. fresh lime juice*

*Tip: When buying tequila, make sure it is 100 percent agave.
Limes are very expensive right now so you might consider using a good bottled lime juice.

Directions:
Chill your glasses. Shake all the ingredients with cracked ice in a cocktail shaker until it becomes frosty. Strain into a glass over rocks, or “up” into a cocktail glass. For an attractive presentation place a wedge or slice of lime on the rim of the glass for garnish.
