Dec 13, 2010 – The Cuban group Los Van Van is already in Los Angeles preparing for the concerts scheduled at the Conga Room tomorrow Tuesday and Wednesday. Los Angeles fans were disappointed earlier this month when the original concert dates, which were to open the Los Van Van 2010 US Tour, had to be rescheduled due to problems with their visas. But now the group is finally in the City of Angels after several successful presentations in Houston, San Francisco, and New York.
One of the most famous music groups of Cuba, Los Van Van was formed 41 years ago by Juan Formell, who is travelling with the group. The current musical director is Formell’s son, Samuel Formell, who leads this group of long-time members, the most recent addition being also the only female in the tour, singer Yenisel Valdes.
In a press conference at the Conga Room today, the group promised their fans an alternating of Los Van Van classics, such as the hit “Sandunguera,” with new material out of their latest CD, Arrazando. Whether new or known, everyone can expect to hear the anticipated Los Van Van’s sound of Songo – the mix of the Cuban clave, of son and guaguanco, fused with rhythms of rock, hip-hop, and funk.
