It's here! A quick look at Apple's new iPad computer

So after years of speculation, and months of daily chatter, Steve Jobs finally unveiled Apple's new tablet device, called iPad. While it doesn't quite live up to all of the hype heaped upon it, it does look like a very well-designed and beautiful device. Here's a quick rundown of what the iPad is all about.

First of all the iPad does run a modified version of Apple's iPhone OS, and because of that, it will run all 140k apps in the App Store. However, in order to take full advantage of the large 9.7" screen, you will need to buy special iPad apps which are in development right now. All the iPhone apps are synced to the device automatically.

Hardware

The screen is full capacitive multitouch, and the device very sleek and light at .5 inches thin, with a weight of 1.5 pounds. It also has a 1GHZ Apple A4 chip that handles memory and graphics. Base model is 16GB with Wi-Fi, 3g is an option.

Music

Fancy new iTunes store on the device, large album preview screens, music playback is similiar to iTunes on your home computer.

Video

Buy and preview video right from the device on iTunes. Clips playback fullscreen in both SD and HD.

Calendar-Contacts-Email

Brand new Calendar, Contact and Email apps made especially for the iPad. Email has dual screen display, shows mail list on one side, e-mail on the other.

iBooks

Full Color eBook reading app, special iBook bookshelf to store your titles on the device. You can buy books on the device via a special iBook store. Six large publishers signed up already.

Price

$499 for 16GB base model. 32GB is $599, 64GB is $799. 3G models cost an extra $130. $629, $729, and $829 with 3G."

Special data plans thru AT&T, 250MB for $14.99 a month, Unlimited access for $29.99 a month.

Available in 60 days without 3G, 90 days with 3G
