‘It’s hard to say’ that David Haye isn’t a joke

Trainer Adam Booth on Thursday told World Boxing News that “it’s hard to say if” David Haye will return to the squared circle.

The 33-year-old Haye (26-2, 24 KOs), who was scheduled to scrap Tyson Fury on February 8, has been indefinitely shelved since undergoing shoulder surgery in November.

Haye was initially slated to throw fists with Fury (21-0, 15 KOs) last September.

Unfortunately, a few weeks before their tussle, Haye suffered a cut above his left eye while training and was deemed unfit to battle Fury.

“Right now, it’s hard to say if David will ever fight again as we won’t know anything until his shoulder has been medically reassessed,” said Booth, who was bloodied during Haye’s February 2012 brawl with Dereck Chisora.

“Do I want him to fight again? I want what is best for David. The only thing is we don’t know what that ‘best’ is until doctors examine the shoulder.”

An arrogant loudmouth, the 6-foot-3, 212 pound Haye resurfaced from his first layoff in July 2012 and earned a rousing fifth round TKO triumph over Chisora (18-4, 12 KOs).

Prior to meeting “Del Boy,” the brash bloke hadn’t fought since a cowardly showing against Wladimir Klitschko in July 2011.

Although not exactly akin to Muhammad Ali versus Joe Frazier, a match pitting the 6-foot-9, 257 pound Fury against Haye would have been intriguing and become the biggest prizefight on British soil in decades.

However, the bout is likely forever nixed and “The Hayemaker” should explain why he never previously mentioned a shoulder ailment.

Haye’s credibility is beyond tarnished and it certainly seems like the former WBA heavyweight champion avoided Fury.

“Right now, it’s hard to say” that David Haye isn’t a laughingstock in the world of boxing.
