In three days the New York Islanders will face the New Jersey Devils in their first matchup of the regular season. They will travel to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey where John Tavares will lead the Islanders into their first away game to start the season.
The following night, Saturday October 5th, the Islanders will have their first home game in the Nassau Coliseum. There they will face the Columbus Blue Jackets in what will already be their second divisional game of the new season.
The Islanders have also released their 23-man roster, which is comprised of 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies as of Monday, September 30th. Brock Nelson, Matt Donovan and Griffin Reinhart are among those 23, leaving Ryan Strome to once again head back to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The Islanders will have much to prove going into Friday’s game. If they are going to show the NHL that they are a threat and that last year wasn't a fluke, they will have to start out with a few wins to get the momentum going.
The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. EST this Friday in Newark, New Jersey.
